OpenAI Strikes Back at Google with Its Own New AI Model

AI firm OpenAI introduced its new GPT-5.3 Instant model on the same day that tech titan Google (GOOGL) launched its cost-efficient Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite model. According to OpenAI, GPT-5.3 Instant is built to give more accurate answers and provide clearer, better-organized results when searching the web. At the same time, it is designed to reduce unnecessary disclaimers, dead ends, and rigid wording that can interrupt the flow of a conversation.

As a result, responses should feel more natural and easier to follow. In addition, OpenAI explained that the new model is less likely to rely too heavily on web search results. Previously, that overreliance sometimes led to long lists of links or scattered information that was not always directly helpful. Now, GPT-5.3 Instant understands the deeper meaning behind questions better and provides the most important details right away.

As for availability, GPT-5.3 Instant is rolling out today to all ChatGPT users and to developers through the API under the name “gpt-5.3-chat-latest.” Updates for Thinking and Pro users are expected soon. Meanwhile, GPT-5.2 Instant will remain available to paid users for the next three months before being officially retired on June 3.
