The National Bureau of Statistics released data on February 11th for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) based on 2025 as the base year. This is the first data release after the base year adjustment. In response, the head of the Urban Department of the National Bureau of Statistics stated that after the base year adjustment, changes in survey classification categories, survey sites, representative standard products, and weights will all have some impact on the price indices. However, the direction and magnitude of these effects vary, and their combined influence determines the overall impact on the total index. According to calculations, the impact of this base year adjustment on the monthly year-on-year growth rates of CPI and PPI is approximately 0.06 and 0.08 percentage points on average, respectively, which is relatively small overall.
