Hyundai America recalls 41,651 vehicles, side curtain airbags malfunction becomes the focus

Hyundai Motor America recently submitted a recall application to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involving 41,651 vehicles. The core issue of this recall is a design defect in the side protection system, where the curtain airbags may fail to deploy properly during a collision, significantly increasing the risk of injury to passengers in side impacts.

Safety Risks of Curtain Airbag Deployment Malfunctions

As a passive safety feature in Hyundai vehicles, curtain airbags are designed to deploy quickly during a side impact to protect the head and chest of passengers. However, affected vehicles may experience a malfunction in the curtain airbag activation mechanism under certain collision conditions, preventing timely inflation and deployment. This technical fault directly threatens occupant safety, especially in T-bone (side-angle) collisions, where the risk is highest.

The NHTSA has announced the recall number and the list of affected models. Hyundai will replace the relevant parts free of charge to restore the normal function of the curtain airbags.
