Multiple Middle Eastern countries urgently lobby the U.S. to resume the US-Iran talks originally scheduled for the 6th
On February 4th, local time, CCTV reporters learned that after several Middle Eastern leaders urgently lobbied the Trump administration to abandon the threat of withdrawal negotiations on the afternoon of the same day, the planned US-Iran nuclear talks scheduled for the 6th were able to resume, and the negotiations will be held in Oman. The United States had earlier rejected Iran’s proposal to change the original meeting location from Istanbul, Turkey, to Oman.
It is reported that this deadlock has caused concern throughout the Middle East, with fears that Trump might resort to military action. At least nine countries in the region have contacted the White House through the highest-level channels, strongly urging the US not to cancel the meeting.
An American official said, “They asked us to continue the talks and listen to Iran’s side. We have told Arab countries that if they insist, we will hold the meeting. But we are very skeptical about this.” Another US official stated that the Trump administration agreed to hold the meeting to “respect” US allies in the region, “and to continue seeking diplomatic solutions.”
