Nevada, USA, has filed a lawsuit against Coinbase, accusing the company of providing unlicensed gambling services. The lawsuit alleges that Coinbase has been offering online betting and gaming platforms without proper licensing, violating state regulations. Authorities are seeking penalties and the cessation of all unlicensed gambling activities conducted through Coinbase's services. This legal action highlights ongoing concerns about regulatory compliance in the rapidly growing digital currency and online gambling industries.
Deep Tide TechFlow News, February 4th, according to Cointelegraph, the Nevada Gaming Control Board has filed a civil enforcement lawsuit against Coinbase, accusing it of offering sports betting contracts without proper licensing. Nevada authorities have applied to the court for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent Coinbase from operating “derivatives exchanges and prediction markets” related to sports betting.
This lawsuit comes less than a week after Coinbase announced a partnership with Kalshi to launch prediction markets in all 50 states. Although the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulates Kalshi at the federal level, the platform still faces legal challenges from state regulators.
Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Mike Dreitzer stated on Tuesday, “The board is committed to fulfilling its duties to promote a thriving gaming industry and protect Nevada citizens.” Notably, last week, a Nevada court also issued a temporary restraining order against Polymarket operators.
