Sweden Retail Sales Slows to 7-Month Low

In December 2025, Sweden's retail sales grew by 1.5% year-on-year, down from 6.9% in November. Sales of non-durable goods slowed, and grocery trade fell slightly. Monthly retail activity declined by 0.7%, but trade was 1.0% higher from October to December compared to the prior quarter.

Retail sales in Sweden rose by 1.5% year-on-year in December 2025, easing from an upwardly revised and over four-year high of 6.9% in the previous month. This marked the weakest growth since a drop in May, as sales slowed sharply for non-durable goods (3.1% vs 10.8% in November). At the same time, grocery trade excluding Systembolaget declined (-0.2% vs 2.1%). On a monthly basis, retail activity fell by 0.7% in December, reversing a five-month high increase of 1.1% in the previous month. Over the October to December period, trade was 1.0% higher compared to the preceding three-month period of July to September.
