In the crypto world, most attention is focused on tokens, prices, and short-term profits. But behind every sustainable Web3 application, there is always a silent but crucial operational factor: data storage infrastructure. #Walrus was created to address this core issue.
Today, most applications still rely on centralized cloud services. Files, videos, NFTs, and user data are stored on servers owned by a few large companies. This makes data susceptible to disruptions, control, or disappearance at any time. With Web3, this presents a significant contradiction.
@WalrusProtocol offers a different approach: decentralized storage, trustless third-party, yet still fast and efficient. Built on the Sui ecosystem, Walrus is a dedicated storage layer for large data such as videos, images, media NFTs, AI datasets, game assets, and application data.
Instead of trying to upload massive data onto the blockchain, Walrus separates roles: blockchain is used for verification and management, while data is stored off-chain. This way, the system saves costs while ensuring integrity and verifiability.
Walrus uses erasure coding technology: files are split into smaller parts and distributed across multiple nodes. Just one part of the data is enough to recover the entire file, keeping the system always ready even if some nodes encounter issues.
A unique feature of Walrus is programmable storage. Smart contracts can verify, manage, and connect directly with data, opening a new generation of applications where data becomes part of on-chain logic. $WAL tokens play a coordinating role in the ecosystem, incentivizing nodes to operate stably and long-term.
