This is an insightful and in-depth conversation.

The core members of the Ethereum Foundation point to a reality: Ethereum's role is evolving. From a simple blockchain to a global settlement infrastructure, this positioning has changed.

Settlement, security, consensus mechanisms—these tried-and-true elements have become stable after years of testing. Ethereum's maturity in these three areas needs no further explanation. The issue lies elsewhere.

Can transaction throughput keep up with the demands of the global market? That is the real bottleneck. It's not just a speed game, but whether the entire transaction ecosystem can support financial-grade loads when Ethereum serves as the underlying market infrastructure.

The industry is working on solving this problem. The new generation of transaction layer solutions is not about rehashing DeFi performance upgrades, but about systematically reconstructing the full chain of transaction confirmation, clearing, and risk control. This is infrastructure-level innovation, far beyond the scope of application layer optimizations.

The bottleneck in throughput has been obvious for a long time; it's just now being acknowledged that it's too late.

"fundamentally flawed model" take ngl... ethereum's throughput issues are real but let's examine the contract here—most layer 2s are just shipping the same liquidity fragmentation problem around. seen this exact design pattern in 2021, TVL artificially inflated across chains. the math doesn't check out when you factor in actual settlement costs

The bottleneck issue of throughput should have been addressed long ago, but the idea of a systematic overhaul of the entire chain indeed has some merit.

Basically, it's a throughput bottleneck. Having security alone isn't enough. If it truly wants to be a global settlement layer, it needs to keep up with the pace.

Throughput is indeed the ceiling; frankly, it's about making ETH the true settlement layer, but right now it's just talk on paper.

The bottleneck in throughput has long been an issue that should be taken seriously, it's not just about running an L2.

Throughput is really the ceiling; without solving this, everything else is pointless.
