New Leadership at CFTC: Amir Zaidi Steps Into Chief of Staff Position
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has elevated Amir Zaidi to the position of Chief of Staff, marking his return to the regulatory body where he previously made significant contributions. CFTC Chairman Mike Selig announced the appointment through official channels, recognizing Zaidi’s proven track record in financial regulation.
Zaidi’s professional journey with the CFTC spans from 2010 to 2019, during which he held multiple senior roles and oversaw critical regulatory initiatives. Most notably, he was instrumental in implementing Bitcoin futures contracts—the groundbreaking federally regulated cryptocurrency product that established a major regulatory framework for digital assets. His leadership in the Division of Market Oversight helped shape how the CFTC approached emerging market technologies.
Beyond his tenure at the regulatory agency, Zaidi has built an impressive career in the financial sector. He served as Global Head of Compliance at a prominent broker-dealer and introducing broker, managing enterprise-wide compliance operations. Prior to his 2010 CFTC appointment, he accumulated decades of experience in financial services, holding various positions in legal, regulatory, and financial roles across New York and Washington.
This appointment underscores the CFTC’s commitment to leveraging experienced leadership as the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies continues to evolve. Zaidi’s combination of deep regulatory expertise and compliance background positions him to influence policy direction at a critical juncture for digital asset oversight.
