Don't Let Expectations Hijack You

There's an interesting logic: if you set expectations for everything you do, you might end up stagnating. This statement comes from Boris Cherny, head of AI programming tool Claude Code.

He shared the growth story of Claude Code — initially, it was just a side project for the Claude team, and no one took it seriously. Because there were no high expectations, the team was freer to explore, which ultimately led to unexpected gains.

This is very much like the paradox of innovation: the more you hold onto the idea of "must succeed," the more you are bound by that thought. Conversely, projects that start with "let's try it out" — because they carry no burdens — are more likely to achieve great things.

Haha, that's hilarious. Actually, it's the truth that the greater the pressure, the more likely to fail... Many projects die because of the words "must succeed."

Ha, isn't this exactly what I've been trying to say? Don't overthink it, or you'll just box yourself in.

Really, the more you think about needing to succeed, the more likely you are to fail. Projects that are unintentional or accidental tend to grow wild and thrive.

Nah, that's why I can't stand projects that hype themselves up before launch; the real deal is the ones that work quietly behind the scenes.

This is the real truth—how many projects have died under the spell of "must succeed."

Hey, that's not right. Too many people are killed by their own roadmap. Sometimes, it's really just playing around that unexpectedly leads to miracles.

Oh no, that hit me. People like me are most likely to be crushed by expectations...

Wait, no, on second thought, aren't all those hot Web3 projects like that? No one believed in them at first, but they ended up coming out on top.

Why do I always think about whether I can make money before doing anything? Instead, I'm getting more and more competitive.

Haha, the story of Claude Code is so true—low expectations can lead to miracles. This is also a universal truth in the crypto world.

Early projects that said "I'm just playing around" are still around today, while those that raised hundreds of millions and claimed to change the world... well, how are you all doing now?

Haha, I feel like this logic is especially useful in crypto too... Many projects start off hyping everything up and end up failing.

Having no expectations actually allows you to create something, this is truly awesome.
