Oslo Airport ushers in the Bitcoin payment era—how does the Lightning Network reshape retail settlements?
【Chain Wen】Norwegian travel retailer Travel Retail Norway announced recently that duty-free shops at Oslo Airport now accept Bitcoin payments. This sounds a bit futuristic, but the actual operation is quite simple—users can pay with BTC at checkout when clicking to reserve pickup, supported by technology from Satoshi Consult.
The most interesting part is that this solution uses the Lightning Network. This second-layer scaling solution has become increasingly active in payment scenarios over the past few years, capable of solving Bitcoin transaction speed and fee issues. Norwegian Krone (NOK) is exchanged in real-time as the settlement currency, so users don’t have to worry about complex currency exchange processes or additional fees.
Currently, this service is only available at Oslo Airport, but Travel Retail Norway says this is just the beginning. They plan to expand to other city stores in the future and are also exploring integrating more payment methods. For retailers, supporting digital currency payments can attract more crypto users; for users, settling with BTC during international travel is indeed more convenient. Although this exploration is still in its early stages, it shows that traditional retail’s attitude toward blockchain payments is gradually changing.
