Just got back from Dubai, and I’m still immersed in that epic showdown.
Can you imagine? CZ and Peter Schiff—the Wall Street veteran who’s always predicting Bitcoin’s demise—actually faced off in person. They discussed a classic, never-ending debate: between Bitcoin and gold, which one is truly the hard currency of the future?
This clash had been brewing for a while. Back in October, Peter called out CZ directly on social media, challenging him to a face-off: which deserves the title of “currency” more, Bitcoin or tokenized gold? Medium of exchange, unit of account, store of value—they were ready to break it all down point by point.
CZ didn’t back down, replying with just two words—“Let’s do it”—and then brought Peter to the Dubai Blockchain Week event.
Surprisingly, the opening was pretty odd—the two actually shook hands and made peace at first.
Why? Because they found common ground: asset digitization is pretty awesome. Despite always calling Bitcoin a bubble, Peter actually appreciates blockchain technology. He’s even got his own project—locking up real gold in a vault and issuing certificates on-chain, pegged 1:1 to the physical gold. This way, no more hassle carrying gold around, and transfers are way more convenient.
At the time, I wondered if these two were really going to end things so peacefully.
But the very next moment, things started to heat up...
