Abu Dhabi prohibits crypto mining on farms, citing energy usage concerns.
According to a report by Coindesk on October 2, Deep Tide TechFlow news states that the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has reiterated its ban on cryptocurrency mining on farms in the emirate and warned that violators will face severe penalties and disruption of government services.
According to ADAFSA, such activities conflict with the intended function of farmland, which is limited to the cultivation of crops and the raising of livestock.
Farms found to be participating in mining will be fined 100,000 dirhams (approximately 27,000 USD), and repeat offenders will face doubled fines. In addition to fines, ADAFSA will also cut off power supply, confiscate equipment, and suspend their participation in agricultural support programs.
ADAFSA stated that offenders (including owners and tenants) may also be referred to other departments for further action.
