Thailand launches new measures for Crypto Assets payment.
#btc ETh#pi
On August 21, 2025, Thailand announced the launch of the "tourist digipay" project, allowing international tourists to exchange Thai Baht for Crypto Assets and scan to consume, with plans for formal implementation in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Tourists need to open an account with a digital asset operator licensed by the Thai SEC, apply for a "Tourist Digital Wallet," and after transferring Crypto Assets, it will be automatically converted to Thai Baht for consumption.
Merchants can access the system by scanning the QR code and directly receive Thai Baht settlements without any additional operational burden.
Consumption Limit
The monthly spending limit for ordinary merchants is 50,000 Thai Baht, and for merchants with identity verification, the limit is 500,000 Thai Baht, with a total not exceeding 550,000 Thai Baht.
Unused balance can be exchanged back to the original Crypto Assets, and high-value consumption (such as real estate) will be included in subsequent stages.
Compliance and Security
The entire process complies with Thai laws, and digital asset operators and payment service providers must implement a dual anti-money laundering mechanism, including KYC/CDD regulations and asset source verification.
expected impact
It is expected to drive a 10% increase in tourist spending, with per capita expenditure increasing by 5000 Thai baht, creating at least 175 million Thai baht in additional income each year.
Helping small and medium-sized tourism enterprises connect with high purchasing power customer groups, promoting the collaborative development of the digital economy and the tourism industry.
