Trump: The U.S. needs to spend $200 billion annually to subsidize Canada.
On May 6, U.S. President Trump posted, “I look forward to meeting with Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney. I very much hope to work with him, but there is one simple truth I cannot understand - why does the U.S. subsidize Canada by $200 billion each year, provide them with free military protection, and many other things? We do not need their cars, we do not need their energy, we do not need their lumber, we do not need anything they have, except for their friendship - I hope we can maintain this friendship forever. On the other hand, they need everything we provide! The Prime Minister is about to arrive, and this is likely my only concern.”
