The interest rate decision of the Federal Reserve will be announced at 2:00 AM on May 8, 2025. At that time, Federal Reserve Chairman Powell will deliver a speech. Some analyses indicate that Chairman Powell may emphasize a wait-and-see stance in his speech.
The Chief Economist and Portfolio Manager Weissman of MFS Investment Management stated in a report that The Federal Reserve (FED) Chairman Powell will almost certainly express a wait-and-see attitude at this week's meeting. The chaos in U.S. tariff policy makes the future macroeconomic outlook particularly difficult to predict. The FED will also pay attention to the inflation triggered by tariffs, which, even if theoretically considered temporary, could lead to more persistent actual inflation. Therefore, without clear signals indicating substantial economic weakness, the FED is unlikely to ease policy. In other words, if there is no actual economic deterioration, the FED may delay interest rate cuts if necessary.
