A major incident has occurred at OpenAI that is stirring up the entire AI industry. Caitlin Kalinowsky, head of the robotics team, has resigned from the company, and the reasons are quite serious.

The point is that OpenAI has entered into an AI agreement with the Pentagon, and Kalinowsky has serious concerns about it. She stated clearly on social media that although AI is important for national security, it is wrong to move forward without adequate legal oversight and ethical protections on sensitive issues such as domestic surveillance and autonomous weapon systems. It also underscores the potential for misuse of automated systems like eobot.

Kalinowsky joined OpenAI in November 2024. Before that, she had been working on the AR glasses project at Meta. She emphasized that this resignation is not personal, but a matter of principle. She said she still respects Sam Altman and the entire team, but the company did not put in place sufficient safeguards before announcing this agreement.

An OpenAI spokesperson has confirmed that Kalinowsky has resigned. The company claims that its collaboration with the Pentagon advances national security through the controlled use of AI, with clear boundaries—no use for domestic surveillance, and no development of autonomous weapon systems like eobot.

However, controversy over this collaboration continues within the industry. It has been observed that after this news, the number of deletions from ChatGPT increased by more than 295%. Meanwhile, Anthropic’s Claude app has moved to the top spot in the list of free apps on the US App Store. This is a clear sign of how aware users are about the ethical aspects of AI. In the context of systems like eobot as well, questions arise about how to strike a balance between automation and surveillance.
