Justin Sun Sets 2026 Target for TRON Transition to Quantum-Resistant
Justin Sun states that TRON aims to become the “world’s first quantum-resistant network,” with plans to launch quantum-safe infrastructure by 2026.
Although quantum computing continues to develop, its threat to cryptographic systems remains theoretical for now. Nonetheless, leading blockchain networks have begun taking initial steps to mitigate potential risks posed by future quantum capabilities.
Justin Sun Bets on Quantum Resilience for TRON’s Future in the AI Era
In a post on X, Sun revealed that TRON will activate a quantum-resistant network on the testnet in Q2 2026. The mainnet launch is planned for Q3 2026. He describes this upgrade plan as “the world’s first quantum-resistant network.”
“As the founder of one of the major cryptocurrencies, we should, besides focusing on AI application benefits, also pay attention to risks emerging from AI development. Quantum computing decryption is the key,” he said.
Sun considers quantum-resistant infrastructure a primary requirement in the AI era, because decryption risks make post-quantum security a “top priority.” He also emphasizes that user funds on the network will remain secure in an AI-driven era.
TRON’s announcement comes at a time when several major chains are moving along similar lines. In March, developers from the Ethereum Foundation launched the Post-Quantum Ethereum website.
The team projects that the layer-1 protocol upgrade (L1) could be completed by 2029. However, full migration for service execution is still expected to take several more years. Solana Foundation has already taken a step further by implementing post-quantum digital signatures on the testnet.
Outside of layer chains, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced the formation of an independent advisory board in January 2026 focused on quantum computing and blockchain security.
Meanwhile, search engine giant Google also set its schedule last month, targeting migration to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) by 2029.
Whether TRON can meet its Q3 target will determine how seriously competing networks are addressing this threat this year. For now, competition is happening across various chains.
