On April 27, during an interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes” that aired on the afternoon of April 26, U.S. President Trump detailed the situation during the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner the previous day. Trump stated that when the gunshots first rang out, he did not immediately realize the severity of the threat and was ‘not worried,’ intending to observe the situation first. He mentioned that at one point he did not cooperate with the Secret Service to evacuate quickly, saying he wanted to see what was happening, and he acknowledged that this behavior may have slowed the response of the Secret Service personnel to some extent. As the situation became clearer, the Secret Service requested that he take immediate protective measures. Trump stated that under the direction of the Secret Service, he and First Lady Melania Trump crouched down for safety, and were subsequently escorted away from the dinner area to a secure location.
