Giancarlo Lelli used cloud-accessible quantum hardware to break a 15-bit elliptic curve key, a 512-fold jump from the previous record. The result does not break Bitcoin’s 256-bit keys, but Project Eleven CEO Andy Pruden said the resource requirements for this type of attack keep falling. The breakthrough has intensified debate over how Bitcoin should respond, including a proposal to freeze quantum-exposed coins.
