Abstract generation in progress

AIMPACT News, April 24 (UTC+8), according to Beating Monitoring, AI search API company Exa has released a major upgrade to its Highlights feature. Highlights is Exa’s ability to extract dense summary snippets related to queries from web pages, generated in real-time per request (not cached), completed within 100ms.
In the SimpleQA benchmark test, 500-character Exa Highlights match the accuracy of 8,000-character original full texts, with token consumption reduced by 16 times; 4k-character highlights outperform 32k-character full texts.
The improvement is especially significant in scenarios involving long documents such as technical documentation, API references, SDK documentation, and research papers: with a 500-character budget, highlights achieve a 60% accuracy rate, compared to only 6% for full texts.
Exa’s proprietary endpoints like /answer, Deep, and Websets all use Highlights as the underlying retrieval mechanism, without reading the original page content.
Highlights is not a new feature but an existing content extraction option within the Exa API.
This upgrade is at the model level, and all requests with the enableHighlights parameter enabled automatically benefit, with no code changes required.
