I've been following HSBC's movements in the crypto space for a while, and there's something that's been on my mind. It seems pretty clear that they are using Ripple's custody infrastructure to handle tokenized securities and gold. But here comes the interesting question: how likely is it that Ripple is also storing their GILTs through this same system?
Think about it carefully. If HSBC already trusts Ripple to custody high-value digital assets, the next logical step would be to expand that relationship to debt instruments like British GILTs. It wouldn't be the first time we see traditional financial institutions expand their custody services with a single provider when the relationship works.
The interesting part is that XRP and all the technology behind Ripple are specifically designed for this: fast movement of valuable assets, real-time settlement, and institutional-level security. HSBC wouldn't be experimenting with this if they didn't see real potential.
I wonder if more banks will follow the same path. If HSBC is trusting Ripple for GILT custody, it could be the start of something bigger in the traditional financial sector. Anyway, it's a space that needs to be closely watched in the coming months.
