A Trader Bets $430 Million 15 Minutes Before Trump Announces Ceasefire Extension
Several traders are reported to have placed large bets against falling oil prices just minutes before a major announcement from President Donald Trump regarding Iran conflict.
According to Reuters, around $430 million bearish positions were placed in the oil market just about 15 minutes before Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire with Iran.
These transactions occurred in a very short time with unusual volume, raising questions about the possibility of market participants having prior knowledge.
After the announcement, oil prices indeed experienced a decline, so the positions taken earlier could have yielded significant profits.
This phenomenon is not the first occurrence, as throughout April there have been several similar transactions with total bets reaching billions of dollars before key geopolitical moments.
This condition raises concerns about potential insider trading or at least some market players' ability to anticipate geopolitical events with high precision.
The oil market itself is currently very sensitive to developments in the Iran conflict, given the region's role in global energy supply.
