So if you're getting SASSA grants and need to know how to update my SASSA details, here's what actually works based on what people have figured out.

If you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, you can't just do this online - you have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your original ID and a copy, plus proof of your new bank account (a bank statement from the last three months works). They'll give you a form to fill out, and then it takes about 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. Pro tip: submit the request before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

For the SRD R370 grant though, updating SASSA details is way different - it's all online. You go to the SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they text you a link. Click it, put in your new bank details, and you're done. Takes a few days to a couple weeks to verify. Just remember the account has to be in your name only - no joint accounts.

Changing your phone number is important because that's how they send you the verification codes and payment notifications. For SRD, there's a contact portal where you enter your ID and Application ID, add your new number, they send you an OTP to verify it. If the online thing isn't working, just call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or email them. Going in person is usually the safest option if you're dealing with something complicated.

The main thing is don't use random websites claiming they can update your details - stick to the official SASSA portal only. That's how people get scammed.
