Gate News reports that on April 13, both CBS and NBC, citing U.S. officials, said that contact between the U.S. and Iran is ongoing and that "progress is being made toward reaching an agreement." CNN, citing sources with knowledge of the matter, reported that U.S. government officials are internally discussing details for a second in-person meeting before a U.S.-Iran interim ceasefire agreement expires. Whether the talks can proceed will depend on whether communications among all parties make progress in the coming days. Officials are discussing possible dates and locations for the meeting.
The report also said that a "regional source" revealed that before finalizing Islamabad, Pakistan, as the location for the most recent round of talks, several alternative sites were proposed, including Geneva, Switzerland; Vienna, Austria; and Istanbul, Turkey. At present, Geneva and Islamabad are again under consideration. According to sources with knowledge of the matter, depending on how communications among all parties develop in the coming days, the U.S. and Iran may also extend the ceasefire by two weeks to allow more time for negotiations. In addition, according to RIA Novosti on April 13, citing a message on social media by a journalist from The Atlantic magazine, the next round of "direct talks" between the U.S. and Iran may be held in Islamabad on the 16th.
