[Africa launches blockchain trade digitization program, aiming to cover 55 countries]

On November 18, the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, in conjunction with the Iota Foundation and other institutions, launched the "African Digital Access and Public Trade Infrastructure" (ADAPT) platform, aimed at achieving the digitalization of cross-border trade through Blockchain technology and stablecoins. The platform is planned to be fully launched by 2027 and to cover all 55 countries in Africa by 2035, with an expected additional trade volume of $70 billion per year for Africa, reducing border clearance time from 14 days to less than 3 days, and lowering cross-border payment costs to below 3%. Kenya will take the lead in piloting this technology in the first quarter of next year. Currently, the number of cryptocurrency users in Africa is expected to reach 75 million by 2026, with stablecoins accounting for 43% of the transaction volume in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
