Research institutions: Delay in mass production progress of 800V DC and CPO, putting pressure on the optical module sector
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the semiconductor and AI infrastructure research organization SemiAnalysis has released a new research report stating that two key technological routes for AI data centers have experienced significant delays, including NVIDIA's native 800V DC architecture and the mass production process of CPO (co-packaged optics), both of which are later than market expectations.
The report points out that the shipment of NVIDIA's planned large-scale 800V DC power architecture has been postponed to 2028, instead of the previously expected timeline. Meanwhile, the shipment scale of CPO in 2027 is expected to be below market expectations, with mass production possibly delayed until 2028 or 2029, mainly due to issues such as optical engine connection yield, ASIC integration difficulty, and cost factors.
SemiAnalysis believes that the 400V DC solution will still begin volume production as scheduled in 2026, and some NPO projects may accelerate. However, the supply chain for power supplies, switches, and optical modules relying on new platforms like Rubin Ultra and Kyber will face delays. The report maintains a relatively positive outlook on Amphenol, Vertiv, and Legrand, while taking a more cautious stance on companies like Lumentum, Himax, Navitas, and Wolfspeed.
