24-Hour Crisis Review: The Extreme Clash of Interests Between the US and Israel

Event Progress
Without fully notifying the White House, Israel launched a surprise attack on Hezbollah in Lebanon, followed by Iran launching multiple rounds of ballistic missile retaliation against Israel. The IDF also targeted Iranian targets, bringing the situation close to all-out war. US President Trump urgently called Netanyahu twice, ultimately forcing Israel to pause subsequent strikes with a tough warning ("Otherwise, you will be isolated and unsupported").

The Fundamental Contradictions Between Both Sides

Netanyahu's Needs: He is deeply embroiled in corruption cases, with an upcoming election. A controlled external conflict helps reinforce his image as a "security strongman" and prolong his political career.
Trump's Needs: He is close to reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran, viewing it as a major diplomatic achievement and campaign accomplishment. Any full-scale war would destroy the deal and drive up oil prices, impacting the midterm elections.

Consequences and Risks
Although the crisis has been temporarily eased, the cracks have become public—Trump has shown a "I call the shots" attitude, severely damaging the mutual trust among traditional US-Israel allies. Israel will not be willing to be "tied up," and Iran remains watchful. As long as Netanyahu has a "war demand" and Trump is eager for a "peaceful conclusion," the Middle East powder keg could ignite again at any time.
