Next, 《Encrypted City》 will take you through the WWDC 2026 conference content and summaries from multiple foreign media outlets, introducing the main updates such as Apple Intelligence, Siri AI, and iOS 27.

Siri AI and Apple Intelligence fully evolve

Apple has officially announced that it has partnered with Google, integrating Google’s Gemini AI model into Apple Intelligence as one of the underlying architecture components. There were also earlier reports claiming that users could choose multiple third-party AI models, but for now, it appears that only Gemini has been integrated.

After a complete redesign, Siri has launched a dedicated Siri AI application on the iOS system. Here are its key updates:

A brand-new interactive interface and voice performance

When users wake Siri, the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen will display a brand-new animation effect. In iOS 27, users can also swipe down from the center of the screen to bring up the Siri AI text chat interface, continuing prior questions and answers in the form of conversation cards.

In addition, Siri’s voice performance has become richer. Users can adjust its speech rate and ways of expressing emotion themselves.

Cross-app capabilities and context awareness

Siri AI can now understand complex consecutive instructions and carry out tasks across different applications.

For example, users can ask Siri AI to look up the lottery ticket draw time for concerts, or instruct it to categorize specific photos and add them to a shared album with family.

Powerful visual intelligence

Siri AI has the ability to interpret what’s on the screen, and it is integrated into Spotlight search on macOS Golden Gate. Users can directly ask questions about on-screen content—for instance, looking at a photo of a small cabin and asking Siri how to build a studio inside it.

Alternatively, by using a Mac screenshot of a music festival schedule, users can have Siri directly add performances they’re interested in to the calendar. In the Camera app as well, Siri can use computer vision to provide real-time answers about real-world objects captured in the camera frame.

Regarding privacy protection, Craig Federighi said that most of the computation for AI instructions is completed directly on the device. If there is a complex request that requires cloud resources, the system will execute it through encrypted private cloud servers, ensuring that Apple and any external experts cannot access users’ private data.

It’s worth noting that, to comply with regulatory requirements and privacy reviews in the European Union and China, Apple stated that Siri AI and some of the newest AI features will not be provided on the iOS 27 systems in these regions at the initial stage.

iOS 27 is officially unveiled with fanfare

Apple announced that iOS 27 will support all subsequent models, including iPhone 11. The new operating system significantly improves operating efficiency by upgrading the CPU scheduler.

On iOS 27, iPhone app launch speed improves by 30%, photo display speed increases by 70%, and AirDrop file transfer speed improves by up to 80% as well.

Apple operating system search feature management vice president Stacey Ford also said that it has rebuilt the underlying architecture for global search across Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, providing a more stable and fast indexing experience.

The Apple ecosystem also gets updates

For other updates to the Apple ecosystem, we have summarized them as follows:

  • macOS Golden Gate: Siri AI is integrated into Spotlight search, and the toolbar design of applications is unified; the corner radii of all windows also become tighter.
  • Safari: The browser introduces AI technology. It can automatically categorize tabs into different folders based on topics, and allows users to generate custom extensions by describing their needs in natural language.
  • Photos: Adds multiple AI image editing tools. Users can use generative AI features to re-compose images, extend image border aspect ratios, or clean up background clutter in a more natural way; the generated images all include SynthID watermarks.
  • Shortcuts: Supports natural language input. Users simply describe what they need verbally or in text, and the system can automatically create the corresponding automated shortcuts.

The Liquid Glass design needs adjustment

Apple introduced the Liquid Glass interface design last year, but made revisions this year.

To improve readability issues caused by excessive transparency in Liquid Glass, Apple added a transparency slider so users can adjust the interface’s opacity themselves. The sidebar has also been extended to the edges of the screen to reduce visual distractions.

Child safety protection

For child safety, Apple enforces default protective measures for accounts of children under 13 by default.

Parents can precisely set which apps children can use during specific time periods, who they can contact, and which websites they can browse. If the system detects images containing nudity or gory violence, it will automatically blur the content and send an alert to the parent side.

Apple previews new features for the fall

Apple also mentioned that more features will be released this fall, as follows:

  • iCloud Shared Albums: Will introduce cross-platform photo sharing capabilities, as well as full-resolution support for shared files.
  • Health app: The “menstrual tracking” feature adds support for premenopause and perimenopause, including notifications when cycles that may be related to premenopause abnormalities are detected.
  • Apple Watch: A brand-new dynamic app grid view will be introduced, showing images of five apps suggested by Siri; users can also open widgets in the new “Smart Stack” with a new tap gesture; in addition, the new “Find” app integrates “Find Devices,” “Find Items,” and “Find People.”
  • AirPods: Users can use Custom EQ to further adjust AirPods’ sound performance according to personal preferences. As more functionality is rolled out with the Apple GymKit feature, AirPods Pro 3 users can enjoy excellent sound quality while also syncing heart rate data through iPhone.
  • Apple Vision Pro: Panoramic photos can be converted into spatial scenes and used as a personalized “environment”; the speed of connecting to Wi‑Fi is also increased to up to three times.
  • Apple Maps: Brings a more advanced “Flyover” experience, combining aerial imagery and AI so users can enjoy more detailed visual content.

Why Did Apple’s Stock Drop After WWDC26?

According to CNBC, Apple’s stock price rose more than 3% before the WWDC event began and reached a record high during the trading day, but after the updates related to Siri AI were announced, it fell 1.89% at close. The reason may be that Apple had already leaked plans to partner with Google Gemini to strengthen AI capabilities, resulting in a “buy the rumor, sell the news” effect.

However, CNBC analyst Zev Fima believes that this AI strategy Apple has announced aligns with the long-term expectations of Wall Street. By partnering with Google, Apple successfully avoided the risk of spending billions of dollars in a large language model arms race.

Apple is concentrating its core resources on optimizing the ecosystem and user experience. This strategy is expected to further boost the reliance on and adoption rate of high-margin services among its massive user base.

The final act before Cook steps down

Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook will step down on September 1 this year, officially transitioning to Executive Chairman, and will hand over the CEO role to the current senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus.

At the end of his keynote speech, he looked back on his time at Apple and said that helping the team drive innovation has been an honor of his lifetime, and he also firmly believes that Apple’s “best future” still lies ahead.
