From $28 an hour to $880,000 in shares.. A welder at SpaceX is building a fortune close to a million dollars.. How is that possible?

Juan Hernandez came from Mexico to the United States seeking a better opportunity, and in 2015, he joined SpaceX as a contract welder earning $28 an hour. When he became a full-time employee, the company granted him shares worth $10,000 vested over five years.

Hernandez didn't stop at the stock grant; he continued buying more through regular deductions from his salary, betting on the future of the company led by Elon Musk.

As SpaceX's value increased over the years, he started selling small portions of his stake in 2020 when the company's value reached around $36 billion, using the proceeds to buy real estate in Texas. Today, he and his wife run a small real estate project, while he still holds a significant portion of his shares in the company.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the value of the shares he retained is approximately $880,000 based on the expected offering price, bringing his total wealth close to the million-dollar mark.

Hernandez commented on his experience: "These shares have secured a decent life for me." He is currently working as a rocket welder at Blue Origin, while keeping his shares in $BTC SpaceX.
