Apple WWDC 2026 Unveils a New Siri AI Version! Teams Up with Google Gemini, iOS 27 Brings an Epic Upgrade

Apple officially unveiled the new “Siri AI,” which integrates Google Gemini model technology, as well as the next-generation operating system iOS 27 at today’s (9th) WWDC 2026 developer conference. To win back market trust lost due to the previous delay of Apple Intelligence, Apple has made a major upgrade to Siri’s conversational and visual perception capabilities this time, and for the first time introduced a standalone Siri app, launching a full-scale counterattack on the artificial intelligence market.

  • Forming an alliance with Google Gemini, Siri enters an epic evolution
  • System-wide integration and visual intelligence (Visual Intelligence)
  • The “second chance” after a $250 million payout

After going through ups and downs, global tech giant Apple finally launched a counterattack at the global developers conference (WWDC 2026) that arrived today (8th). Apple officially unveiled the new generation of Apple Intelligence and the highly anticipated new version of “Siri AI,” signaling its intent to reclaim speaking rights in the fiercely competitive AI race.

Forming an alliance with Google Gemini, Siri enters an epic evolution

To address the bottleneck in its own base models, Apple this time chose to ally with its former rival, Google, adopting Gemini model technology as the underlying computing foundation for the new Siri and Apple Intelligence. Compared with the past, the new Siri is more “Conversational” and has stronger execution capabilities. It even offers users a high degree of customization, allowing them to freely adjust Siri’s speech speed, accent, and expressiveness.

In addition, for the first time Apple has launched a dedicated “standalone App” for Siri, introducing an interaction interface similar to mainstream AI chatbots. Users can review historical conversations, and the new Siri also deeply integrates Dynamic Island. Users can set automatic deletion time limits for chat records (such as 30 days, 1 year, or permanent retention). While delivering powerful assistant functions, it still strictly adheres to Apple’s consistent privacy principles.

System-wide integration and visual intelligence (Visual Intelligence)

Another major highlight of the new Siri AI is its “systemwide” deep integration capability. Siri now features “on-screen awareness,” enabling it to directly read and understand the content displayed on the user’s screen. For example, Siri can recognize objects in the scene through visual search, or automatically extract information from conversations and add it to the calendar. It can even perform complex, multi-step tasks across applications.

Beyond mobile devices, these enhanced capabilities will also roll out in sync with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate 27, bringing comprehensive productivity upgrades across the entire Apple hardware ecosystem, including automatic summaries, real-time translation, and upgraded image generation.

The “second chance” after a $250 million payout

In fact, this is Apple’s “second challenge” launched for its enhanced AI Siri. At the 2024 WWDC, Apple had boldly unveiled the first generation of Apple Intelligence, but later it triggered widespread user dissatisfaction due to feature delays and availability issues. Recently, Apple even agreed to pay up to $250 million in settlement funds to resolve a class-action lawsuit accusing it of “misleading consumers.”

To wash away the previous negative impression, John Ternus—who is set to take over as CEO—has listed this AI upgrade as the company’s top priority. At the conference, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, specifically emphasized the core commitment to “privacy first,” reaffirming that all users’ AI queries will be processed directly on-device. For complex tasks, processing will be handled by a highly encrypted “Private Cloud Compute,” ensuring that data is never leaked. With iOS 27 expected to be released to the public in fall 2026, Apple’s AI comeback battle is only just beginning.
