Threads is testing the music feature in Taiwan first, allowing users to embed their favorite songs in posts and replies.

Threads announced this week that it is the first to test a music feature in Taiwan. Users can choose songs from an authorized music library, clip 30 seconds to attach to their posts, and choose from three visual presentation modes: minimal, lyrics, and vinyl animation.

(Additional background: Threads’ active users have dropped by 80%! Can Meta’s “web version” this week save traffic?)

This week, Threads officially began testing the music feature in Taiwan first, allowing users to embed their favorite songs directly into posts and replies. Users can convey their mood through 30-second clips and make replies more engaging. Meta officials said that Taiwan accounts for 21.08% of Threads’ global total traffic, making it the largest user base worldwide and the core reason it was selected for this initial test.

Three visual modes: from minimal to vinyl animation

Threads’ music feature offers three visual presentation options.

The first is “Minimal Mode,” which only shows the song title and artist information; the second is “Lyrics Mode,” where the lyrics in paragraphs are displayed within the post; the third pairs album cover art with vinyl record animation effects.

Meta officials stated that music has always been one of the most active community topics on Threads—from live concert coverage and music festival sharing, to K-pop fan support and daily playlist recommendations. Music has long become a common language for many Taiwanese users to communicate and interact.

After the new feature went live, users can not only add music to their own posts but also directly reply to others’ posts with songs, making interaction formats even more diverse.

Gradual rollout to iOS, Android, and web version

The music feature is currently being tested in Taiwan and supports iOS, Android, and the web version, but at this stage only some Taiwanese users can try it early. Meta said it will gradually expand access so more users can use this new feature. Note: If you see a musical note symbol when you publish a new post, it means you can start using it.
