Notion integrates the backend into the knowledge base: developers can run code in the official sandbox.

Abstract generation in progress
AIMPACT News, May 15 (UTC+8), according to Beating Monitoring, Notion announced the Developer Platform, beginning to extend workspaces from the knowledge base frontend to an enterprise internal integration platform. The core of the new platform is Workers: developers can use Node/TypeScript to write lightweight programs, deploy them to Notion's official hosted sandbox via the Notion CLI ntn, for syncing external data, receiving Webhooks, or supplementing Notion Agents with custom tools.
In terms of data flow, the newly added Database sync can continuously write data from external systems such as Salesforce, Zendesk, GitHub, Stripe, etc., into Notion databases for team and Agent use. Notion emphasizes that such synchronization tasks run directly on its infrastructure, saving enterprises the cost of maintaining separate servers.
AI integration channels are also simultaneously open. The External Agents API allows enterprises to connect Claude, Codex, Decagon, or custom Agents to Notion, enabling them to chat, receive tasks, and perform actions like native workspace members.
Additionally, the Agent SDK, currently in private alpha, aims to enable external systems to directly trigger Notion's Custom Agents. This indicates that Notion is upgrading the "AI assistants in documents" into a foundational workspace runtime layer capable of system integration, running code, and calling tools.

Has Notion evolved from a document assistant to a tool that can run code and connect to systems? Are they trying to compete with Zapier and Replit?

Webhook reception + external data synchronization, finally no need to write scheduled scripts to crawl APIs and manually paste anymore

Decagon's vertical agents can all be integrated, Notion's open strategy is more aggressive than expected

External Agents API is pretty interesting; Claude can pretend to be a team member to take on tasks, so in the future, it's hard to tell in the group chat who is human and who is AI.

Database synchronization is finally here! Directly integrate Salesforce and Stripe into Notion, so you don't have to check CRM and billing on two ends.
