AIMPACT News, May 15 (UTC+8), the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is using artificial intelligence tools to monitor predictive market trading behaviors to identify insider trading and market manipulation risks on platforms like Polymarket. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig stated that the regulatory agency is utilizing AI to recognize patterns in large-scale trading data, screening for abnormal transactions, locating potential violation accounts, and assisting in deciding whether to initiate investigations or issue subpoenas. He emphasized that, in the context of rapidly increasing data volumes, AI has become an essential tool for regulation. Reports indicate that although platforms like Polymarket are mostly established outside the U.S. and have not obtained licenses in the U.S., the CFTC still plans to take enforcement actions against cross-border transactions involving U.S. users and will exercise extraterritorial jurisdiction when necessary. The agency also combines on-chain analysis tools (such as Chainalysis) and market anomaly monitoring systems to jointly oversee both crypto markets and traditional financial markets. Recently, prediction market platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi have strengthened their review measures against insider trading and market manipulation, and have introduced third-party on-chain data analysis services to meet regulatory requirements. The CFTC states that it has received a large number of reports of abnormal transactions and is processing "hundreds to thousands" of potential leads, with further enforcement scope possibly expanding.
