AIMPACT News, May 23 (UTC+8), Google is hiring hundreds of engineers to help clients adopt AI, highlighting the ongoing challenges of practical AI applications. Google Cloud has established a new "Forward Deployed Engineers" team, with Chief Revenue Officer Matt Renner stating that the team will provide more technical resources for clients. This move by Google aligns with industry trends: OpenAI launched the "OpenAI Deployment Company" this Monday, collaborating with consulting and investment firms; Anthropic announced last week a joint venture with a private equity firm. Additionally, Google is negotiating with Blackstone, KKR, and EQT to provide AI model access to their portfolio companies. Despite rapid revenue growth for frontier AI labs, the number of human consultants is also increasing, indicating that companies still find it difficult to deploy AI in production environments.

The point about human consultants being added is very subtle, and the narrative of AI replacing white-collar workers needs to be revised.

Implementing in the real world is often the hardest part; wasn't Salesforce also surrounded by a bunch of consultants back then?

Revenue is growing so fast that they still need to hire more people, which shows the customer doesn’t really know how to use it.

EQT's private equity also gets involved; AI has now become a standard part of post-investment services.

Google finally admits that just selling APIs isn't enough; they need to send people to teach it hands-on.

The Anthropic joint venture shows that everyone prefers not to bear the implementation costs themselves.

This job title sounds impressive, but it's basically just senior outsourcing.

Blackstone's people, after gaining access to the model, probably will first use the invested companies as test subjects.
