The German Bundestag rejects proposal to increase cryptocurrency taxes
The German Federal Parliament’s Finance Committee rejected a Green Party proposal to scrap a tax-free policy for selling cryptocurrencies held for over a year. The Green Party argues that cryptocurrencies should be treated the same as other investments, while critics say the measure would raise the tax burden higher than that of stocks. The governing coalition suspects it could leave loopholes, and the Social Democratic Party is waiting for the finance minister’s plan. The Green Party estimates the move could increase annual revenue by around 11.4 billion euros.
