OpenAI’s three biggest backers collectively place a bet against their opponent; Anthropic has secured $30 billion in funding, with the deal set to be completed this month
AIMPACT reports that Anthropic will raise a new funding round of $30 billion, with a pre-money valuation of approximately $900 billion, and complete the deal within May. Leading investors Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter Capital have each invested at least $2 billion, and the three are major shareholders of OpenAI, indicating that the AI market will form a duopoly. The new CFO Krishna Rao is leading negotiations, with Google/Amazon expected not to participate, and the remaining shares are still under discussion, with terms possibly adjusted. Source: FT
