The United States plans to reach a $20 billion "cash for uranium" agreement with Iran, in exchange for its relinquishing uranium enrichment reserves and ending the war.
ME News reports that the core of the US-Iran three-page plan for ending the war involves the US releasing $20 billion in frozen funds in exchange for Iran abandoning some of its enriched uranium (approximately 2,000 kilograms total, 450 kilograms at 60% enrichment).
Negotiations have entered the second round, continuing in Islamabad, with Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey mediating.
The agreement proposes transferring some highly enriched uranium to third countries, reducing enrichment within Iran under international monitoring, and establishing voluntary suspension periods (20 years for the US, 5 years for Iran).
Trump stated that an agreement is close; if no deal is reached, the ceasefire will expire on April 21, and hostilities will resume.
