US Media: Trump allies urge him to conduct testing and review before AI model release

Gold Financial reports, on May 18th, according to Axios, a letter shows that more than 60 of Trump's loyal allies are urging him to test and approve the most powerful AI models before their release. The letter, co-signed by Steve Bannon and conservative anti-AI activists, has caused a split between active supporters of "MAGA" and the White House's permissive attitude toward artificial intelligence. Inside the White House, the mainstream view is that the U.S. will win the AI race by maintaining relaxed regulations and overturning most state-level AI laws. Bannon stated, "This letter takes us a step further, clearly indicating that we must implement mandatory testing and obtain government approval for AI models." The letter compares AI to nuclear systems and the aviation industry: "AI systems that can currently or soon assist in designing biological weapons, infiltrating critical infrastructure, or manipulating financial markets should be treated with the same level of importance and caution." The letter supports policies requiring mandatory testing, evaluation, review, and government approval before deploying such potentially dangerous frontier AI systems.
