**Where can I retire with 1500 dollars a month? The answer given by AI is quite interesting**
Many people want to retire early, but the budget is limited. Recently, I tested it with ChatGPT to see which places in the world can live comfortably with a monthly expense of under 1500 USD. The results were surprising in some places.
In Bragança, northern Portugal, a furnished apartment costs only 400-500 dollars/month, plus utilities 150, transportation 30, health insurance 100, and food 400, so two people spend less than 1500 a month. There are also free Portuguese classes and private hospitals. Another small town in Portugal, Covilhã, is similarly inexpensive, with a one-bedroom apartment costing 500 dollars, and a family of two can still save money within a budget of 1500 dollars.
Southeast Asia is also very competitive. In Penang, Malaysia, a three-bedroom sea-view apartment is only $380/month, and a single person's monthly living cost is $500; two people can get by with $1000. The healthcare level is also quite good. In Hoi An, Vietnam (a UNESCO World Heritage town), a two-bedroom apartment is $500/month, including rent, utilities, hiring a maid, and daily meals; two people spend less than $1500 a month.
Querétaro in Mexico is underrated - only a 2-hour drive from Mexico City, a one-bedroom apartment costs $500/month, a meal for two at a restaurant is $25, and total expenses are under $1500. You can also fly to several major cities in the U.S.
Summary: You don't have to go to popular tourist destinations. Small towns, university towns, and non-hotspot areas are often the true value kings for retirement.
