I Am a Muslim, a Proud Nigerian from the North
I am a Muslim and a proud Nigerian from the Northern region. I am not sectarian, and I do not support sectarianism, because Islam forbids division and hatred among people. Islam is a religion of peace, justice, and mercy toward everyone — Muslims, Christians, and people of all faiths.
It is important to understand that just because a person calls themselves a Muslim does not mean everything they do reflects the teachings of Islam. Both Muslims and Christians can commit wrong actions out of personal desire or ignorance, not because their religion instructs them to. No religion teaches injustice or violence against the innocent.
The claim that Christians are being killed in Nigeria while Muslims are not is a baseless falsehood — a lie created by those who seek to divide Nigerians and paint Islam in a bad light. The truth is that the insecurity we face in Nigeria affects everyone, regardless of religion. Muslims and Christians alike have been victims of the same violence, terrorism, and criminal attacks.
In fact, many of the regions suffering the worst insecurity are Muslim-majority areas, where mosques have been attacked and innocent Muslims have been killed — men, women, and children — without reason. Yet, some people carelessly repeat the false narrative that “Muslims are killing Christians,” ignoring the suffering of countless Muslim families who are also victims of this same violence.
We, Nigerians — Muslims and Christians alike — do not need foreign interference in our domestic issues. This is a matter for our government and our people to resolve together. We call for unity, not division. We reject the attempts of outsiders to use religion as a weapon to destabilize our country.
To the United States and others making reckless statements: Focus on your own internal challenges and crises before pretending to solve ours. Nigeria does not need your threats, your bias, or your hidden agendas. What we need is peace, truth, and cooperation built on respect and sovereignty.
God willing, Allah (SWT) will soon bring an end to this insecurity and restore peace to our nation. We put our trust in Him alone — for Allah is the Best of Planners.
