According to U-Analyze, York Space Systems (YSS-US) on August 16 slashed its 2026 revenue guidance from $570 million to $390 million, a reduction of $180 million or 32%, citing a shift in U.S. government procurement practices. The U.S. military has moved from directly awarding large satellite and space system contracts to establishing Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract pools, where suppliers are first selected as qualified vendors and then compete for task orders as specific needs arise.
This two-stage procurement model extends the timeline from contract award to actual order confirmation. York had previously expected to secure and recognize revenue from major contracts in 2026, but those are now deferred to 2027. The company's second-quarter backlog declined 8% sequentially to $592 million. While York tracks over $11.5 billion in potential opportunities and $1.85 billion in potential unawarded contracts, most represent future bidding eligibility rather than confirmed orders.
