Spain to Formally Propose Ending EU-Israel Association Agreement on April 21

GateNews

Gate News message, April 19 — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced today that Spain will formally propose to the European Union on April 21 to terminate the EU-Israel association agreement.

Sanchez previously called for the EU to review or suspend the accord. On April 10, he stated that the EU should take action to constrain the Israeli government and urged suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement, citing Israel's military operations in Gaza and Lebanon as violations of international humanitarian law. He warned that Europe must act in coordination to prevent Lebanon from facing a similar fate to Gaza.

The EU and Israel signed the Association Agreement in 2000 to provide a legal and institutional framework for political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two parties.
