EU to Advance MiCA Review in 2027, Open Door to Tether and Non-EU Stablecoins

According to Euronews, the European Union has decided to review and modify its Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework in 2027 to allow excluded non-EU stablecoin issuers like Tether to operate in the Eurozone. European diplomats revealed the move was influenced by the passage of the U.S. GENIUS Act and the Trump Administration's pro-stablecoin policies. The revised framework would also address emerging technologies, with diplomats considering whether to expand MiCA to regulate new tokenized means of payment and deposits. An unidentified diplomat told Euronews that reopening the file appears unavoidable, citing positions from European institutions including the European Central Bank and recent global regulatory and technological developments.
