CME Gold, Silver, and WTI Crude Volume and Open Interest Rise on August 12; Copper Cools

According to CME data released on August 13, trading activity in precious metals and energy futures showed divergent trends on August 12. Gold trading volume reached 186,126 contracts with open interest at 403,674 contracts, up 23,230 and 3,365 contracts respectively from the prior trading day. Silver volume climbed to 76,573 contracts with open interest at 116,986 contracts, increasing 9,516 and 1,859 contracts respectively.

WTI crude oil trading volume surged to 855,960 contracts with open interest at 1,911,153 contracts, up 4,802 and 18,724 contracts respectively. In contrast, copper volume fell to 79,859 contracts with open interest at 292,809 contracts, declining 7,493 and 4,238 contracts respectively.
