Cboe BZX Exchange recently filed a proposed rule change seeking U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approval to list 3x leveraged exchange-traded funds, including products tied to Bitcoin and Ether. The proposed lineup also includes 3x Gold, Silver, Crude Oil and Natural Gas ETFs, each designed to deliver three times the daily performance of its underlying asset through futures contracts. Volatility Shares LLC would sponsor the funds, which would be structured as commodity pools under CFTC oversight in addition to SEC and securities registration processes. The Bitcoin and Ether funds would provide investors substantially higher daily crypto exposure without directly holding the tokens, making them targeted primarily for short-term tactical trading rather than extended holding periods.
