According to CNBC, veteran investor Steve Eisman warned on August 11 that the current AI boom is increasingly dependent on the fortunes of OpenAI and Anthropic. Eisman stated that approximately 70% of AI-related revenue for Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Oracle comes from the two startups, accounting for 25%-35% of these companies' total cloud computing revenue. Eisman identified open-source AI models as the major threat to the industry, saying that if both companies face significant setbacks, lower-cost alternatives could capture substantial market share, triggering intense competition.
