According to AFL-CIO's Executive Paywatch annual report released on August 13, S&P 500 CEO average compensation reached $22.8 million in 2025, excluding Elon Musk, up 21% and marking the highest level since the organization began tracking in the 1990s. If Tesla's 2025 restricted stock plan is included, CEO average pay surges to $340.1 million. The pay gap between S&P 500 CEOs and workers widened to 312:1 (excluding Musk) or 5,387:1 (including Musk), compared to 285:1 in 2024.
