According to the Federal Reserve, on August 14, the Fed announced it will pause reserve management purchases (RMP) of U.S. Treasury securities through September 14, as bank system reserve balances have reached levels the central bank deems appropriate. The New York Fed will continue reinvesting approximately $17 billion of maturing principal during the same period. As of August 12, the secured overnight financing rate (SOFR) settled at 3.62%, below the interest rate on reserve balances (IORB). The Fed emphasized that this adjustment affects only reserve management operations and does not reflect any change in monetary policy stance or balance sheet strategy.
