Brazil's Central Bank Introduces 24-Hour Hold for Crypto Transfers Over $10,000

According to Brazil's Central Bank (BCB), on Friday the institution published Resolution 584 requiring cryptocurrency service providers to delay transfers exceeding $10,000 for 24 hours as a fraud-prevention measure. The hold applies to transfers to foreign virtual asset entities and self-custody wallets, whether in a single transaction or accumulated across one day.

Institutions must conduct risk assessments during the 24-hour period and can release funds immediately after or before the deadline if they document a reasoned decision based on specified risk criteria. The rules take effect January 1, 2027.
